Grand Rapids Press Writer Terri Finch Hamilton and photographer Emily Zoladz did a phenomenal job telling the story of "my village" (you all included) and myself (as we've waded through the waters of lung transplant). Check out the article and related videos at http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2010/08/lung_transplant_patient_organ.html
I hope that my story can make a difference and result in more people signing up to be organ donors and extend the lives of thousands of people waiting for organs. But even if it extends the life of one, that would be worthwhile. I am so honored to be able to tell my story and my feelings about organ donation and transplant.
Thank you for still checking in with this blog even though I don't write often. Lately, I have not felt as well, periods of 'air hunger' where I am short of breath and have some anxiety, periods of pain in my lungs and my body, periods of nauseousness too, and YET there are still many more times that I am feeling okay. I am fighting hard and will continue. One helpful thing is the antibiotic I am on right now because my bacteria in my lungs are not resistant to the antibiotic so it should be able to bring down my current lung infection. It is the only antibiotic that my bacteria is not resistant to. We just have to pray my kidneys will not be compromised by the antibiotic because that is a possible side effect that could stop treatment. However I think it is working well so far and will continue.
I miss my boys so much and my husband too. I just had to write that because I don't see them as much as I would like and yet its a problem that just can't be fixed.
Thank you all for your encouragement and your prayers if you're of the praying persuasion.
Love you,
Kerry

I read the article yesterday, you're so inspiring! Everyday, I hope things get better and that your call for new lungs will come soon!
wow! such an amazing article written about such an amazing life! you are so tough, and such a fighter! what you are doing takes more strength than any olympian!!! your boys have an awesome mom, and i'm sure they know that! :)
i pray those lungs come quickly!!!! it has been such a long wait, i don't know how you keep from going crazy!
“She’s not supposed to be able to talk on the vent,” said her stepmother, Glenda Roby. “But somehow, she figured out how.”
Roby smiles and points her finger heavenward. “I think there’s some help from up there. Because she would go crazy if she couldn’t talk.”
-that part made me smile. haha. i can soooooo relate!
God bless you kerry! lots of love and prayers to you!
I love you dearly, sister, and the article written about you was awesome. I went ahead and posted a link to my facebook page so that others would be able to become a registered organ donor. I was a donor in Ohio and now I'm one here in Michigan.
You're so cute. :) So how would I go about sending you something at the hospital? (Can you have stuffed animals?)
Great article.... i posted it to my fb. I heard some possible bad news from a friend of your grandma?? If anyone can... please post an update here or on fb or post a contact number for updates.. please.. I am worried!
Hey kerry,
Long time no see, or talk sadly! You are such a amazing and strong women! I actually was just thinking about you last night before i found all of this!! I had thought hey everyone is on facebook these days so why not look her up, so I did and ended up finding Cordell and was reading on his fb and ran into this. I was thinking about how much I miss you all, and how much fun we use to have together, almost like we were sister! Reading this all made me think about how fast life for someone can change when you lose touch with one another. I will be praying for you and your family. Hope to get back in touch with you someday! Well get well soon my dear, will be praying your new lungs come in any minute now! I miss you and will be thinking of you everyday! Thank you for being such an amazing and inspiring person! You will get through this!
Love always,
Tristin

Kerry, I picture you in Heaven taking in deep gulps of the purest air, your new body full of God's promised eternal life. You can finally laugh without coughing, sing His praises without gasping for air, and most of all, live in the presence of the One who died to give you all you would ever need. We thank Him for you,... we will never forget you, and we look forward to the day we are reunited again.
Kerry,
The very few, brief moments I spent with you in this vapor of life were precious to me. You were very dear to my heart and I felt a connection to you through our similar journeys of the pain of "When?" and the joy of "Now".
You will remain forever in my heart, until we meet again.
With Love,
Amy
I will miss you so deeply my amazing friend for 10 years. I feel blessed to have known you well, and watched in awe how you lived your life. Humbled by even being near you. A legacy and memories are left: Your love, strength, grace, kindness, fellowship and trust in God. Goodbye...
